Kirsty Adams

Kirsty Adams is a South African composer/songwriter, singer, violinist, philanthropist. Kirsty released her debut EP The Wings Beneath My Feathers in April 2019 which combines her love for classical, pop and jazz. She has composed music for various classical ensembles around South Africa and internationally, including the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet in 2017, has premiered work internationally in Singapore in 2018, as well as composing for films such as the SAFTA-award winning documentary The Water Dancers (2018). Kirsty has collaborated compositionally with an eclectic array of renowned South African artists including Jazzuelle, Sloani, PHFAT, and film composer Ben Ludik.

Kirsty graduated from Stellenbosch University with a Bachelor of Music (Cum Laude) and Masters in Music Composition (Cum Laude) degrees under the tutelage of Hans Roosenschoon. She trained in violin with Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra concert master Suzanne Martens, and played in the University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra (USSO). She now performs violin for Red Cello Productions and the Rosanthorn trio.

Kirsty sang for the Stellenbosch University Jazz Band, performing at events such as the Cape Town Youth Jazz Festival, and at the Nyorican Poets Café, New York City.

Philanthropy is a significant part of Kirsty’s life, which urged her to initiate The Platform to unite artists of Stellenbosch University to present a performance annually dedicated to making awareness of certain unspoken causes. 

In 2020, she started the platform called Femme Arts Cape Town to empower, converse with and normalise presence of womxn creatives in the industry. Her mission to empower her fellow women creatives translates into many spheres of her career, especially working with all women crews for her self-produced music videos.

Kirsty has been accepted to New York University to study a Masters in Music Composition specialising in Songwriting.
