Emma Luyendijk

Emma Luyendijk is a Cape Town-born pianist based in Boston, USA. Emma’s commitment to Collaborative Piano is driven by a passion for the dialogical potential in chamber music and vocal arts. Her work encompasses traditional lied accompaniment, vocal coaching, sonata-duo, and explorations in new music. Emma currently serves as a staff pianist at The New England Conservatory, and Boston Conservatory @ Berklee.

Emma's commitment to community engagement through music has led her to work with several international organisations. Among various projects in South Africa’s non-profit sector, Luyendijk worked abroad alongside the international music organization El Sistema teaching music to victims of the 2011 tsunami and in 2016, was certified by Musicians Without Borders through the School for International Training Graduate Institute’s Peacebuilding Program (Vermont, USA).

Luyendijk has been the recipient of the Brown-Loranger Fellowship at SongFest, the United States’ premier art song festival, and was a 2019 fellow at the Collaborative Piano Institute in Minnesota. She has received masterclasses and coachings from composers and artists including Jake Heggie, Sylvia McNair, Roger Vignoles, and Martin Katz. Notable performance engagements include projects with The Umculo Opera Incubator, Voices of South Africa International Opera Competition, and Boston Art Song Society. Emma is invited to participate in The Aspen International Music Festival as a Collaborative Piano Fellow, later this year.

Emma is a graduate of Boston University's College of Fine Arts (2019), where she obtained a Masters in Collaborative Piano. Emma has been accepted at The Juilliard School in New York City, where she will continue her studies in vocal collaborative piano.
